If you haven’t heard about Northside’s upcoming Pride Fest, then get ready for an amazing weekend! Although Cincinnati’s official pride parade moved downtown this year, Northside will not be without it’s gay pride celebration. A small group of people have gotten together a supercool festival and have asked us to participate in the fashion show on Saturday. All I’m going to say is that we have FIVE themes planned for the show, so be assured you don’t want to miss it!

Recently Chicken Lays An Egg had the honor of having a really incredible artist, Chris Gliebe do a custom mural for us in our courtyard! Our fabulous tech guy Jacob (Jessy’s boyfriend) made us this time-lapse animation of Chris painting the mural from beginning to end…

This was the original sketch he did for us and I was amazed how similar it looks to the finished product!

Here are a few stills of it during the progress:

The first touch of color….

She’s such a sassy chicken.

That night we had a little shindig to celebrate our beautiful new courtyard complete with NorthSlice Pizza from across the street and plenty of alcohol. It was as always a night of dancing, playing dress-up, and having a great time.

Early in the evening
We were lucky enough to have Scott Fredette do a photo booth of sorts that night, and he is also making a crazy cool video from the footage he took. (Coming Soon)

Chance is always happy to be the first person in a ridiculous outfit.

Scott is never one to miss the fun of playing dress-up

Goodnight everyone!
It was a really spectacular evening as always, and we can’t wait to have more parties in our gorgeous new courtyard!
If you are a resident of Cincinnati then hopefully you have been to one of Northside’s Fourth of July parades. It is definitely a sight to be seen- from synchronized dances with lawn chairs to the Cincinnati pride marching band. Chicken Lays An Egg has been involved for the last two years but we prefer to do it renegade style (like everything). Our good friend Scott lives along the parade route, so instead of starting at the church parking lot where everyone else does we just decorate his house and jump in the parade when we want. (This has the added bonus of allowing us to have a few drinks before the parade instead of standing in a hot parking lot.)
This year the theme for Scott’s house was Muscle Beach Oil Spill, so Scott hired a muscle man to pose and “freak people out”. He did a great job of both and was a huge hit with the crowd.

Maya the hula hoop queen and Mucle Man

The other great advantage to jumping in the parade from Scott’s house is that we get to watch the parade too!

Ain't nobody here but us Chickens!

Here we go!

I love how syncronized we look in this picture!

I wasn’t kidding when I said that the Muscle Man was a hit!

Even Jim Tarbell couldn't resist!

I love the face that the girl is making

He's so light on his feet!
We had a fabulous time as always and can’t wait for next year! Who knows what we’ll do then…..
Hey there little Chicken readers – sorry we are so SERIOUSLY behind on telling you about our events and showing you how incredible they turned out! I’m just gonna jump right into with some pictures from the Eco Go-Go Fashion Show at Owl’s Nest Park. The theme of the show was sustainable fashion through vintage clothing, so a lot of the Cincinnati vintage shops were involved. We were the finale of the show, so we decided to showcase a green wedding!
The whole wedding party

Doing some last minute alterations before the show…

Abiyah looking spectacular as a wedding guest

Our ring bearer, Owen was a big hit with the ladies as always- that little girl followed him around the whole day. Oh yeah, that’s his own tux cause he’s just that dapper. No big deal.

I love the giant hair extensions that the bridesmaid Samantha got!

Melissa, the mother earth inspired bridesmaid

Our ridiculously cute flower girl

Stacey as the wedding night and Nic the bride

The beautiful Maya strikin’ a pose after the show

Just a little wedding kiss

Chance the groom and I party after the show

Unfortunately we only got to take video during the show, so I have nothing to post for you of us on the runway.
However, we have will be participating in the Northside GLBT fest fashion show, so make sure you catch us there!
I was very excited today to hear that we got mentioned in an article from St. Louis Today! They mentioned some other favorites of ours as well- Fabricate of course and puzzlingly, our long-gone fabulous shoe store, Shoetopia.
“Forget new urbanism. Head for the real thing, to Cincinnati’s Northside. The neighborhood loosely follows Hamilton Avenue for five or six tight blocks. You’ll see Ace Hardware and Electric, native to the neighborhood since 1949 and a fave of Northside residents. Tourists would probably enjoy trendier shops such as Red Polly Space Outfitters, Fabricate, Chicken Lays an Egg and Shoetopia….”
Thanks so much St. Louis Today, next time come in and see the cool stuff we’ve got! Click here for the rest of the article.
